Dear colleagues,
TU Wien (actually, we) are hosting the X.Org developer's conference end of September, which deals with the open source graphics stack and is a great forum for GPU programming under Linux.
Please let your students know and consider contributing and attending - the event is free of charge (but please register)!
XDC @ TU Wien: registration and call for proposals is open
The X.Org Developer's Conference (XDC) is the annual meetup of software engineers working on the Linux open source graphics stack. A global community of professionals, hobbyists and students gathers to discuss latest developments and challenges of their work. During the three-day in-person event, attendees give talks and workshops, covering topics across the stack, from GPU Linux kernel drivers, through userspace API implementations such as Vulkan / OpenGL / OpenCL, up to compositors for embedded, mobile and desktop operating systems, and back into embedded display controllers to light up pixels. The 2025 CFP is still open. You can check out the 2023 and 2024 schedule of previous events to get an idea of what is covered.
The 2025 edition is hosted by TU Wien and co-organized by Snap Inc, and will take place in the TU Wien Kuppelsaal between Monday September 29th and Wednesday Oct 1st. Registration is free and is done through the 2025 XDC website at http://xdc2025.x.org/, where you can also find more information about the event.
This year's program will additionally offer an introductory workshop to the embedded graphics stack, presented by Collabora Ltd. This is a great opportunity for students and professionals who are not familiar yet with this area, and who would like to learn more about how open source software drives high performance graphics across the industry, and how to contribute in these areas.
Best,
Michael Wimmer
