Like water and air, they are also known as upwelling. We present the first algorithm to detect such structures within the velocity field of fluid flows. Furthermore, we demonstrate the relevance and effectivity of this method by showing results for two turbulent flows simulated by a direct numerical simulation (DNS). These two flows concern a backward facing step and the flow through a turbine cascade.
