Architecture is an challenging domain for visualization because it contains structures and elements at widely diverged scale, within which many occlusions can appear. The idea, to solve both both of these problems, is to implement a visualization system, that uses exploded views to handle occlusions but simultaneously preserve the context of elements. Furthermore the system shall enable the user to interactively explore the architecture to gain insight into the building, its structure and functionality. These two approaches are connected by hierarchical segmenting the architecture and using customized design principles at each level of the hierarchy to satisfy the requirements of a particular level of detail. Smooth transitions from one level to another but also from one viewpoint to another are needed to preserve context while exploring the domain.
